ALIEN
OR ANIMAL - BY ZANE
Anteater is the
name of the group of animal sometimes known as the ant bear.
There are three different kinds of anteaters, the giant anteater,
the tamandua, and the silky anteater. The giant anteater is
the largest of the three. This particular anteater has a very
hard time walking, since its claws do not retract. The claws
are curved inward to keep them from being dulled, and this causes
the anteater to have an awkward walk. For

JEOPORDIZED
JAQUARS - SARA B
A species that can
relate to threat of extinction and habitat loss is the jaguar.
Its Latin American Indian name (Panthera onca) means “wild beast
that overcomes its prey in a single bound”. The stealthy spotted
cat used to populate North and Central America quite densely.

Due to over hunting
in the United States and other areas, jaguars, except for those
scarcely scattered through Mexico, have been banished from North
America. The largest remaining population lives in the Amazon
rainforest in South America. But as the Amazon is destroyed by
forestry industries, not to mention human population and development,
the already endangered jaguar is likely to become extinct. More

THE
TOUCAN - BY KRYSTAL

The first thing that people notice
when they look at a Keel-billed Toucan is its enormous banana
shaped bill. It consists of many colours and is up to one third
of its length. This bill amazingly enough, is very lightweight,
due to air pockets. Males are usually slightly larger than the
females, but their colours are quite similar. The toucan has
many colours besides its bill though, such as its astonishing
blue legs. Most of the body is black except for its red under
tail and the yellow chest, throat and face. Find
out more about this fascinating bird.
